Holiday Cards using your stash!

Happy Holidays !!!   How are you doing in your holiday count-down?  Good I hope :) My style of creating cards evolves over a period of weeks as I prioritize according to: distance to mail and who'll we will be seeing first; along with how labour-intensive the cards are. Meanwhile there are the local community good-will cards - these are simple designs so I can crank them out as I move along and give them out leisurely.    Each year I lovingly lay out my crafting space...new supplies all lay waiting to make my annual DIY holiday cards - something I like to do first thing in the morning with my first coffee - before the dog wakes up, lol.  Generally I plot out a plan for designs beginning early - think August! And it never goes to plan. This time, while digging around in my supply closet I discovered a box of left-over bits from years ago , and I thought " Holy Hannah! I've GOT to use these supplies up! "   So today's topic is ' Using Yo...

Make a Glittery Valentine Card with Packing Tape!

My Valentine Card using embossing and a glittery heart made using masking tape. Please scroll to post's end to view Challenges for Valentine's if you're interested.   Hello, hope you are visiting my blog from some sunny part of the world because it is cold beyond belief here - brrrrr!   However, I "warmed" up my spirit playing around with lots and lots of techniques and fun ideas to celebrate Valentine's Day this year!   One technique I have never tried till now was to make a take a small strip of clear packing tape and douse it with glitter - it looked so fun to do - and it was!  Give it a try.   Create an opening cut out of  piece of cardstock using your preferred method [punch, die-cut, scissors] and back it with a strip of clear packing tape and then sprinkle dry glitter over the exposed sticky tape and in seconds you have a cool glittery accent :) CARD HOW-TO I first played around with embossing folders and inks. I si...

Valentine Cards - don't have to be PiNk!

No, they don't! It's all about your own style - and here is one I made while experimenting with a technique. I wanted to a) emboss and b) colour with embossed surfaces. Here's what I did: 1) inked my  4  1/4  x 5 in Very Vanilla cardstock with all sorts of ink colours using sponges,   [you can ink a larger surface area and cut it after colouring] 2) next using a damask-style embossing folder I sandwiched the inked cardstock and pressed it       through my BIG SHOT, 3) using a separate sponge to swipe black ink over the entire piece softly thus affecting only the raised surface created by the embossing folder,  4) decorated the front with a black  heart using my Heart Punch, and a blue circle with my 1 inch Circle Punch and attached them with a black flower brad. Sorry lighting doesn't show how beautiful the colours are in contrast with the black!  Try a more dramatic valentine's card this year!  Cheers :) ...

Christian Class Cards

It was a real pleasure to welcome some lovely ladies from Glen Ayre Church to one of my classes!  I'd like to give a special and warm welcome to Elinore, Ruth, Louella and Carol!  Here they are minus Ruth who had left when I realized I needed pictures! Update:  pictures no longer available, sorry.  Our theme was holiday card projects with a Christian emphasis; and to achieve this, for our first card  I made a greeting framed by the shape of an ornament  using the program,Paint. This greeting exclaimed "Jesus, the true gift of Christmas".   For this project, we used a diorama card in Real Red cardstock. We also used a striped ribbon also in Real Red and White which framed the card nicely.  I love diorama cards because they really look impressive! Our second card project featured a gate-fold style card held with a belly band.  I printed a poem created by M S Lowndes - which you can download for free at her website with her permi...

Hello fellow crafters......hope everyone is crafting on something this week! Here is my furball as he was last week-end on our Easter Spring class - I'm sure he has no ideas in his lil' head as to what we were up to, lol!  Probably just hoping we'd have treats! We DID have treats - and I owe a "Thank You!" to my daughter for taking time to decorate my mini-cupcakes so nicely - see aren't they cute?  She likes the decorating aspect - not so much the baking, ha ha...well, we all have our specialties, don't we!  Here are some of the results of the SUNDAY CLASS! Pretty nice! Everyone did such nice work!  In total, each member did 2 sets of a card & matching pillow favour box as I describe in my CLASS DETAILS in an earlier blog (dates are shown to the right side)...and one set is completely different in 'feeling' - and EVERYONE'S LOOKED FABULOUS!  BIG WELCOME to new crafters KIM and JULIA!
