News and Cues

Hello everyone!   Hope we are all finding a day here and there to rest - we are down sick with something, ugh! But we held off pretty good all year - "knock on wood"....so its good we can rest up now and for me in a day or two that means 're-grouping and re-organizing' that messy place that used to be my shiny craft studio! But I also love cleaning up for the New Year - there is just something pleasant about the task!  I like to get some new fancy cleaning tool or supply item - then unleash the "Mrs Clean" in me!  This year, I bought a new vacuum, and went for a Dyson. I have to admit, I love the attachments! Now - re-vamping my craft business is also on the agenda!  Here is some new developments ... I will be putting into action for the new year....starting with class scheduling. My intent here is for everyone to know when to expect classes each month and will know if they are free to attend (let's hope so! wink ), so.... CLASSES/WORKSHOPS TO BE

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

....and I hope everyone is having a lovely, lovely holiday! On Monday, we shared our time and supplies with the families staying at Ronald McDonald House - and we created these really great Scrapbook-In-A-Box projects.  Due to security I've concealed the identiies of a special girl and her Mom - the lil crown and star indicate they're there! I put a silly hat on me to be equally unidentifiable - well, somewhat, lol! It's not my best look :) Anyways, anyone who made a box for the first time - was super-duper at it, terrific looking boxes! I caught one of the fathers looking at every move I was making - cutting, folding - and so I asked him if he was interested in trying - and he sure was!  He jumped in and was quite eagerly making his box!  And of course, it looked great! He loved all the little doo-dads and dedicated tools - maybe I ought to set up a table at Canadian Tire cuz that makes 2 men in a month that I've see going at this like crazy'!  Girls -

4-Panel Christmas Card with Designer Papers + Birds with Blooms DieCut

Look at what my daughter surprised me with - she made a card like this, and it was soooo pretty, I had to know how.....so she show'd me!  Fancy that - she's been paying attention all this time, lol!  Not really - I always say that she is very creative when she wants to be....ever since she was very young and she'd come up with some really artful poetry, while she may have made some funny-looking rabbits for easter bunnies or elves (none of them had arms, and very over-sized heads, ) in the beginning...she always was amazing me with the naturalness of her creative streak!  But I digress....here are the basic instructions....go ahead, make one - they're fun!!! Card Dimensions    cardstock = 5.5 x 10-3/4 inches    score at 3-3/4 and 5-1/2 and 7-1/4 and 9 inches.   Fold into valleys and hills (accordian style)     turn 90 degrees and fold so that you can cut between (no further, no less) the 5-1/2 and 9 inch scored    lines, at 1 inch from the bottom.  U

Creating your own Invitations & Wedding Projects.

Thank You for all the interest shown at my table display as part of the Scarborough, Welcome Wagon Bridal Showcase today. I really enjoyed meeting everyone of the brides-to-be and their guests, it was really lovely. Our purpose in participating in this event was to demonstrate the Do-It-Yourself Approach in hand-making  your INVITATIONS as well as many other items to create a very personal look to your wedding.   The most common reaction at our table today was surprise when it was learned that everything on display was hand-made!  So many surprised faces!  I hope we managed to convey our message that with some basic preparation, ANYONE can whip up invitation sets, and learn some new ways to look at how you can enjoy making all types of projects to help you plan your events - think favours, guest books, decorations, .....if we can think it, we can make it! It basically comes down to two decisions.....you have money or you have time! And personally, I like to stretch my money

Nice Time at Molly Titus Letters of India Book Launch

Well it was a cold and sometimes gray Wednesday here in TO but it was a warm and lovely atmosphere in the lodge-like reception room in Massey College where we gathered and sipped wine for Molly Titus's book launch!  I have never been to Massey College before but the spacious room had a series of tall and slightly narrow windows overlooking bubbling fountains set amongst the low foliage and a tree here and there - definately a fall setting outside but as we settled into leather sofa's and chairs to hear Molly describe her parents adventures in their new life in India in the 30's, it couldn't have been any better - well, maybe if the fireplace had been on, but the warm glow of the candles set in glass globes around the room did equally fine! So I was delighted to be there with my daughter and Molly was a beautiful spirit and I wish her the best on her own adventures as 'author' - she's is so in my 'inspiration' journal!  Elegant in her fuschia Bomba

Daisy #2 for a Fall Card

I have been just 'die-ing'  to make a sunflower card. Creatively used my Bigz die, Daisy 2 along with  leaves from another die, 'Bird with Leaf and Flowers'.  I think the daisy does a good sunflower impersonation! Beverly xx

Our day down at the harbourfront - hot!

Hi all! I don't know about you, but where we went yesterday was so hot - gosh, just melted in seconds flat in the sun! So we zipped in and out of the shade so it was nice after all. I ate watermelon which was being sold for 50 cents a slice to keep cool - I just luv watermelon! Its like a small gift from God! Anyways I wore some new white pants, my daughter brought her new camera and so here are a few pictures to show off our day - hope you like them. :)

Look Who's Turning Stamp Set - Baby Card

Here's my first real card using my "Look Who's Turning" stamp set as I mentioned in my last post....and my idea to put my Big Shot 'Bigz Scalloped Circle' came about because we were using it this past week-end {showing that post later - stay tuned!}.......and I think I came up with a pleasant idea of making different sized scalloped circles turn into the beginnings of a "baby rattle"! I cut 4 scalloped circles - 2 large on my Big Shot, and then used a hand-held punch to cut out a smaller circle from the center of one of the big circles. Then the fourth was an even smaller scalloped circle cut from white cardstock. I used a hidden cardstock ring to raise the front of the card a bit. Hope that all made sense - lol Using various shades of pink ink, I stamped my adorable octopus on Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White cardstock and then used their Large Scallop Oval to punch it out. Before layering it on, I used a hint of ink to create a pink shadow

President Aquino - Dedication Card for a Inspiring Woman

Corazon Aquino (Jan 25,1933 - Aug 1, 2009) I always feel particularly touched when a greatly known and courageous woman passes on, and its no different now. Sadly, the world is grieving with the Phillipines as they have lost a wonderful woman - their former and 11th President and Asia's first woman president. I made a card in her honour and reading how yellow was her favourite colour and that the streets rained yellow confetti as her countrymen paid tribute to her, I therefore chose yellow as my starting point - discreetly - along with flowers. I opened up one of my latest accessories, Stampin' Up!'s Textured Impressions embossing folder called Elegant Bouquet (see above photo) . It works so easily - just like pressing butter! I used artist brushes and pastel chalks to colour the raised design on vanilla cardstock. The ribbon slider I stamped the crown on to was a hand-made number I created using corner scissors.
