Happy Holidays !!!   How are you doing in your holiday count-down?  Good I hope :) My style of creating cards evolves over a period of weeks as I prioritize according to: distance to mail and who'll we will be seeing first; along with how labour-intensive the cards are. Meanwhile there are the local community good-will cards - these are simple designs so I can crank them out as I move along and give them out leisurely.    Each year I lovingly lay out my crafting space...new supplies all lay waiting to make my annual DIY holiday cards - something I like to do first thing in the morning with my first coffee - before the dog wakes up, lol.  Generally I plot out a plan for designs beginning early - think August! And it never goes to plan. This time, while digging around in my supply closet I discovered a box of left-over bits from years ago , and I thought " Holy Hannah! I've GOT to use these supplies up! Whew what a long title! Sometimes its hard to put an aptly named title together for a project or my talent at this is minimal, but what IS important is that we share right? Right! And today I'd like to share this idea for a card with you because I think its a terrifically fun design that you could use again and again and get a "wow" reaction every time! And believe it or not, it folds into a 5 x 7 in. envelope {hurray!}...which is good for postal rates :) INSTRUCTIONS I followed the following instructions for cutting and folding.... Create the card body : CUT         6 x 11- 3/4 in     cardstock {minimum 80lb cardstock to support weight} SCORE   3- 1/4 ; 5 ; 6- 3/4 ; and 8- 1/2 inch marks FOLD     valley; mountain; mountain; valley  respectively  [creates a central panel which sticks out] Decorate each of the two flanking back panels with co-ordinating patterened paper and the central panel. Here's a pretty project....I created this using a few different punches and one Spellbinder's border die.  The only hard part is choosing your papers....understandable if you have a billion (ahem) sheets of untouched designer series cardstock!  But I did it by narrowing down a few sheets that seemed to go together and I have a real fondness for kraft and pink combination, so maybe it wasn't that hard, lol. Multiple Borders created with punches, die. Handmade ribbon rosette.   Its pretty self-explanatory, and perhaps the only real note is that I created a ribbon rosette by threading a ' wave ' pattern onto a strip of ribbon and pulled the threads so it curled up on itself.  Attach the two ends and voila - you have a rosette!  I finally got to use a brad too that has been in my collection for- evah !!! I hated to finally delve into a red pleated ribbon roll .....maybe I should titled this post - " using up your supplies"!  handmade ribbon roset...

Hello!  Happy New Year's Eve! I know I said I would post another scrapbook project, but in the meantime my daughter had to quickly put together a birthday card for her beloved grandma whose birthday is in the first week of Jan! Actually we have 2 members in our family with early year birthdays beginning with Jan 1rst - my aunt Elsie is turning 97 and she still lives by herself at home - no homecare -amazing lady! Love you Aunt!!! So here is today's feature - a birthday card for those who have "winter" birthdays! The pics are pretty self-explanatory - we were after a soft effect after all the red and green of christmas - it just seemed the right way to go.....plus plenty of embellishments!  We tried to do "interesting' elements including a small peek-a-boo door inside!  The handle for the door is just a rolled up scrap of paper. Good afternoon!  It's Friday - and I bet the end of school for a whole lotta students who are thrilled to be free!!! So enjoy your summer with your children, grandchildren - every day is precious! I am back today with a project I worked on for almost 2 days - but that's because I was designing it as I went along - so you could do it in about an hour if you had instructions, etc.  I will be offering instructions for this once I make a PDF file - so look for it! OK. I love this! I started by making a folding card - well, more importantly, I started because I wanted to use some of the fantastic new things that have been accumulating around the studio! I have also been wanting to do some of the 'vintage' style that is exploding all around the world! Remember this little album I made previously?  A basic few pages just waiting for more inspirations....  Well here's a quickie project featuring a mini-album page. You can easily transfer this to the front of a card, tag, ATC or come up with your own idea -maybe just add it to part of a large scrapbook page. Take a die-cut alphabet letter 'U' and drape some punched out hearts around it. I tried to make the hearts look like they were either leaning into the letter or standing on top of it. 2 Mins is all it took - 1 min. to gather your alphabet die and hearts, and 1 min. to position it on the mini-album page. That's all. Looks great over co-ordinating patterened papers too, but solids would be a great alternative as background. Add a tiny photo if you like, or on adjoining page. Easy Smeesy!
