First Birthday Card of the Year!

Remembering to have a birthday card ready to go right after the festive holidays is always a bit of a challenge for me. Which is probably why I try to put a really good effort because it's a nice change and you want your first card of the year to go well, right? Here it is then, my first card of 2018!  Ta da! Here in Canada we are in the thick of our winter, and for anyone with a birthday in December, January or February - I thought pairing roses with snowflakes could be both beautiful and a nod to their being children of winter!   Now for some details. The snowflake background was created with Martha Steward Scalloped Snowflake punch. This is one in their class of punches called All Over the Page . These punches have two parts that align with magnets allowing you to punch anywhere over the surface of your paper.  They take a little getting used to and are not something I'd recommend for weak-wristed crafters. While it takes effort, you can really get...

Birthday Card feat. Papercut Peacock

Hello to everyone! Back to blogging today, yay! Its beautiful "summer-to-fall" days here in Canada and really trying to take advantage of every lovely day. But today I am sharing a birthday card made for someone's special Mom...and while I do not know the mom in question, I figured that a nice white card featuring a peacock with its beautiful shades of greens, blues and purples would appeal to most women. So I am glad to have in my collection, INKADINKACLING's rubber stamp: Papercut Peacock . Its a nice size stamp and works great with markers meant for stamping. Using markers allows for precise colouring especially for accenting the feathers. And it's very inexpensive!!  My link takes you to 123stitch.com which I have found to be very reliable source for stamps and other crafts with good shipping, even to Canada. Here is the card and a tag to go along with her birthday present: I embossed the background card base with a scroll-style embossing folder w...

January Birthday Card feat DIY Ribbon Candle

Hey crafters! Winter is certainly upon us here in Canada now after having a non-white Christmas season! Today being a pretty cold, cold day and yet - its a bit better than Weds was - lordy that was cold!!! For all you out there - please help our urban wildlife, toss them some food if you can!  And provide helpful guidance to any ill-informed or naive pet owner to not leave their pets outside - if its too cold for  us, its too cold for them! OK - a change in colour is one of my priorities in January - BAM -  right away I put away all the past Holiday decorations and start bringing out whites plus some cheery colour!  Its sort of a minor catharsis I think, to purge out the emotional remnants of participating through Thanksgiving to New Year's celebrations. I know women play out the bulk of the preparations for this often leading to a huge release when its all over. Clear the decks! So right away this year, we had a birthday to consider and blue and orange seeme...

My Daughter's CAS Birthday Card

A REASON TO CELEBRATE - MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY ! My leopard wishing my daughter would hurry up and wake up  so we can get on with celebrating her birthday! Here is my daughter's birthday card for her 26th year!  She is still an adorable, young, pretty and pleasant young lady!  I am SO VERY PROUD of - and she loves colour, bright colours in a bright world,  so I tried to give it to her with this card.  [plus a "few" - ahem - birthday gifts] FRONT - notice I forgot my 'h' in birthday?  I was so caught up trying to write  in a fun style that I misspelled the word, lol.  Supplies:  Heidi Swapp cardstock and circle punch, Sizzlits 'Cherish' alphabet dies,  markers, chalk, brad, and sewing machine. This is a pretty easy card to whip up - white base, cut out some colourful alphabets and randomly  punch a bunch of circles from pretty cardstock. Add a heart accent, brads, glitter...then...

Tim Horton's Coffee Cup Birthday Card

Hello Crafty mates!   My project today is something for my ' Coffee Mates ' . Take a look at the card below....its part of a gift package for my pal Maria who  also happens to be a coffee mate of mine!  You might not guess from the photo, but this card is really a re-incarnated TIM HORTONS COFFEE CUP! And appropriately, a stir stick is starring as the greeting! Now I did not come up with this idea myself but saw it online when I  googled something, and I thought "how fun!" So naturally, I wanted to do one!  Here is how I did it..... UPCYCLED COFFEE CUP TUTORIAL Basically, grab a clean take-out coffee cup from your fav coffee cafe.   I am working with a Medium Tim Horton's cup.  I found it had enough height to add my focal decoration.  I have seen the cards using the ' Large ' coffee cups though - so choose one that you like. Prepare the Coffee Cup. a)"Open the cup" by cutting ...

Penny Black ' Spoil Yourself Silly ' Birthday Card

Hey !  Hello......... Its been awhile since I have wandered away from my usual Stampin' Up! projects....chalk it up to time I guess! But I did dig around my 'other' favourite stamp sets to dream up this BIRTHDAY CARD for a relative who loves cats! Isn't it a real cutie-pie image of the cat and her pal just  ridiculously spoiling themselves!  I think so :) Now.... if you want to make a fun birthday card, then think of making a simple folding card - but then colour choices and embellishments will help to define your card and then the 'whole' card really delivers! Its like knowing that a group of " simple " parts - add up to one " perfect " card which will charm your recipient! The front image is stamped on a separate cardstock panel which is attached to extend beyond the first fold.  Unfolded....the fun continues!   So that is how I approached this card.....basic cardstock folded simply, added some pretty background paper,  a ...

My Birthday Cards - ta da!

Another birthday for me has come and gone!  3 cheers for me as I am feeling well and my loved ones are with me - and I had a few milestones such as going on my first cruise! I am also thrilled to bits with the fact that nearly all my b-day cards were hand-made! I received one extra-special one this year, more about that later :) First up is my daughter's card - she snuck in and did one while I wasn't looking, although we did have a funny moment when she tried to convince me that "I" left out a ribbon jar when I asked her if she had been playing with my ribbon and hadn't put it away ..... I always love her cards, no exception this time :) Now on to my "extra-special" card is from her boy friend, and here it is - isn't it adorable?   with a hand-drawn cupcake no less inside!  Awesome!  And a couple more.....from two friends, first this one with its clever folding.....from Sofia! Then a very interesting punch art card from Maria... ...b...

January or Winter Birthday Card

Hello!  Happy New Year's Eve! I know I said I would post another scrapbook project, but in the meantime my daughter had to quickly put together a birthday card for her beloved grandma whose birthday is in the first week of Jan! Actually we have 2 members in our family with early year birthdays beginning with Jan 1rst - my aunt Elsie is turning 97 and she still lives by herself at home - no homecare -amazing lady! Love you Aunt!!! So here is today's feature - a birthday card for those who have "winter" birthdays! The pics are pretty self-explanatory - we were after a soft effect after all the red and green of christmas - it just seemed the right way to go.....plus plenty of embellishments!  We tried to do "interesting' elements including a small peek-a-boo door inside!  The handle for the door is just a rolled up scrap of paper. A variety of 8 beautiful snowflakes can be yours with the NORTHERN FROST Decorative Strip Die  catalogue item # 120901,  ple...
